To achieve even the most ambitious designs, and to meet the needs of specifiers and designers today, SOPREMA offers bespoke hybrid waterproofing systems. These systems combine multiple SOPREMA waterproofing products into one seamless solution with a single-point, insurance-backed warranty. SOPREMA hybrid systems, enabled by our product ranges’ compatibility with each other, help you efficiently execute the most difficult details and designs and deliver an outstanding aesthetic appearance. Just like bitumen or single-ply waterproofing systems, hybrid waterproofing systems have to be able to demonstrate compliance to BROOFT(4) fire testing. In what follows, we will demonstrate our excellent problem-solving solutions for new build and refurbishment projects with the help of a few interesting cases in which hybrid systems played a major role.
Goodwood Hotel: Bituminous and Liquid Waterproofing
The Goodwood Hotel lies at the heart of the Goodwood Estate in West-Sussex, home to the world-famous Festival of Speed. The hotel management invited our technical experts to take a look at the roof covering the swimming pool pump room. The single-ply roof, with pool pipes running across, had been damaged by maintenance activities, which involved workers repeatedly accessing and accidentally puncturing the roof. Two other specialists who had been previously called in, had advised either liquid waterproofing or single-ply waterproofing.
SOPREMA, by contrast, was quick to note that the different areas of the roof – those with limited versus easy access – called for different waterproofing systems. The solution we designed and that was eventually implemented involved SOPRALENE bitumen felt for the open areas (a membrane characterised by high puncture resistance), and liquid waterproofing for the roof areas that would not be accessed. The surface finish of the SOPRALENE bitumen membrane was replicated by applying the same slate granules to the ALSAN liquid waterproofing, producing a seamless aesthetic finish.
Sugar House Island: Joined-Up Specification
For the Sugar House Island project, SOPREMA had recourse to a joined-up specification. The regeneration project in Stratford, East London, includes a thousand new homes, along with office space, a school and a hotel, and will be delivered in twelve phases. During phase one, which is now complete, SOPREMA acted as the supplier for the podium decks for the residential development. As the 10,000 m2 podium deck will be used for hard and soft landscaping, it called for a robust hot melt system. Yet the specification required the use of a self-terminating system for the upstands. The result that met all the requirements? DUOFLEX for the deck’s field areas, and ALSAN 700 cold-applied liquid waterproofing system for the upstands – backed by expert support from our technical team.
