SOPRABOARD: The Perfect Cover Board For Stone Wool Insulation

As an A1 non-combustible insulation materialstone wool is unaffected by the UK government’s 2019 ban of combustible materials in the external walls of new buildings that measure eighteen metres in height or more. Should the ban be extended to an eleven-metre threshold, the product will remain safe to use. This makes stone wool a very attractive material for specifiers, guaranteeing compliance with the Building Safety Programme established by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

In the following article we will explain the benefits of utilising stone wool and SOPRABOARD   – a combination that not only benefits our systems approach, but also increases the insulation material’s load-spread performance by fifty percent.

Stone wool + SOPRABOARD + Waterproofing

SOPRABOARD is a roofing substrate board composed of a mineral-fortified asphaltic core between two layers of fiberglass. A semi-rigid plate, SOPRABOARD can easily be applied to surfaces to enhance surface performance, either by fixing it mechanically or by using an adhesive between the layers – depending on the design requirements. The resulting system has a very high resistance against puncture and is compatible with a wide range of SOPREMA waterproofing products, from single ply, PVC and TPO to bituminous and liquid waterproofing. Moreover: combined with SOPRABOARD, these waterproofing products can be applied without any primer.

Design Service, Calculations And On-Site Support

Stone wool can be used for upstands as well as horizontal areas. It comes in flat and tapered formats, so SOPREMA can provide a full design, along with condensation risk calculations and U-value calculations. SOPREMA also provide on-site support and act under a single point SOPRACOVER warranty.
