Regarding the installation of synthetic waterproofing membranes (commonly referred to as single-ply membranes) there are many installation methods available for these systems; e.g. fully adhering with glue adhesive, mechanically fixing, loose laying with welded laps and ballast. For sometime there has been a demand for a synthetic waterproofing installation method that can fast track the waterproofing installation and increase security for large scale commercial projects.
An alternative to traditional synthetic membrane fixing methods has been developed, tested and launched in the UK waterproofing market. RhinoBond is an alternative insulation and membrane attachment system for TPO and PVC membranes. The system uses the same fastener and plate to secure both the insulation and the waterproofing membrane to the deck, without penetrating the waterproofing system. The result is a system that does not create any point of entry for moisture, requires fewer fasteners (from 25-50% compared to traditional mechanically fixed applications) and provides superior wind uplift performance.
RhinoBond is based on patented electromagnetic induction welding technology. Just place the RhinoBond tool on the membrane, directly over the specially coated plate and activate it to bond the underside of the membrane to the plate.
Think outside the side-lap
There are no side-lap fasteners required with the RhinoBond system. Since the fastening points are spread across the entire roof in a grid pattern, the uplift load is distributed more evenly and the system can achieve higher wind ratings with fewer fasteners compared to other fixing methods.
